C'hances are you’re either about to start an online business or in need of redesigning your current website because it’s not as successful as you would like it to be. I’ve been there before and would like to take a minute of your time to try and show you some things you should be looking at.
I want to take a look at the critical components that make a website work and that any website designer should be aware of but a lot of them are not.
It’s important that we understand that a websites purpose is to complement our products and text and not to impress our clients and friends. Another words we need a really nice looking website that does not stand out because of the over use of flash or anything else that might distract our visitors from understanding what it is we do. I’m talking about building websites that sale and do not show of the abilities of the web designer.
The navigation needs to be easy to use and easy to find. Making it complicated to get around the site will cause the site visitor to leave and find a less complicated site. It’s also best to use text for your navigation because the search engines can’t read images, java or flash. You need to make sure that your website designer is using the proper navigation for your site.
You also need to know that there is a 3 second rule. The 3 second rule is that most website visitors will not stay on a site for more then 3 seconds unless that site grabs their attention and keeps them on the site. You need to let the site visitor know that they are on the site they are looking for in less then 3 seconds.
This is done my using the graphics in the header, your logo and tag line to tell about your site. All these things should be in the header along with your phone number and should work along with the rest of your site to let the site visitor know they are in the right place. Colors are also important because they effect all of us rather we know it or not.
Your web designer needs to understand that everything on your site either takes away from or adds to your customer experience.
